About us

8storeytree

8storeytree is a Singapore-based retailer specializing in analog photography equipment, particularly film cameras, film stock, and photography accessories. Founded in 2007, it has become a trusted name within Singapore’s film photography community, offering a wide range of products and supporting the analog revival through community engagement and education.

History

8storeytree was established in 2007 by a group of analog photography enthusiasts, who were also the co-founders and members of LomotionSG, a now-defunct online forum dedicated to film photography and Lomography in Singapore. Active from approximately 2006 to 2016, LomotionSG played a key role in building and connecting the local film photography scene, providing a platform for sharing tips, photos, and organizing meetups.

In 2009, 8storeytree launched a physical analog camera shop called Thirtysi36, which quickly gained a loyal following. The shop served as both a retail outlet and community hub. However, after four years, it was closed due to shifting market demand and personal circumstances.

Following the closure of Thirtysi36, 8storeytree shifted its focus primarily to online operations, while maintaining a small physical presence in Geylang for product collection and occasional customer visits.

In 2023, the business relocated to a new space at The Mezzo on Balestier Road, which allowed for a broader product display and more community interaction. After two years of growth and activity there, rising rental costs and the landlord’s intention to sell the property led to another move.

In 2025, 8storeytree settled into its current location at the Golden Wall Flatted Factory, still along Balestier Road, where it continues to serve a growing base of analog photography enthusiasts.

Recognition

8storeytree has been consistently recognized for its excellence in customer service. It was ranked as one of Singapore’s Best Customer Service Providers by The Straits Times and Statista in both the 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 editions of the national survey.

In the Camera & Photography category, 8storeytree achieved top ranking, praised for its responsiveness, knowledgeable support, and commitment to customer satisfaction—outperforming larger and more established competitors.

This consistent recognition underscores the brand’s dedication to building genuine relationships with its customers and maintaining a high standard of service, both in-store and online.

Brand Identity

The name Thirtysi36, initially the shop name, is now used as a brand identity under 8storeytree, particularly for in-house products such as camera bags, and other photography accessories. This branding preserves the legacy and spirit of the original physical store while reinforcing the company's roots in the local scene.

Community and Market Position

Since its early days, 8storeytree has been deeply embedded in the local analog community. Through LomotionSG, social media, workshops, and its YouTube channel, the brand continues to promote film photography culture and provide educational content for newcomers and veterans alike.

In the competitive landscape of Singapore’s film photography retailers, 8storeytree stands out with its wide product range, responsive customer service, and community-first approach.

Although it mainly serves the Singapore market, the business has ambitions for global expansion, with an eye on balancing international shipping costs and accessibility.
